Payroll Alliance poll seeks better understanding of outlay

Businesses could be facing large costs as they prepare for the biggest shake-up to the PAYE system in more than 60 years, Payroll Alliance has warned.

The payroll management information service has received reports from firms that expect to pay between £1,000 and £55,000 to upgrade their BACS software ahead of the launch of real-time information (RTI), which will affect most employers from next April.

Payroll Alliance has published a short online poll in an effort to gain a clearer understanding of the outlay necessary for businesses to become RTI-ready.

The results will be shared with HMRC, although the identities of respondents will not be revealed to the department, which expects the new PAYE set-up to reduce employers’ costs in the long run.
