The latest report from the Adjudicator’s Office.

KEY POINTS

  • In 2015-16 970 cases were resolved.
  • The percentage of complaints upheld about HMRC decreased.
  • Tax credit problems account for 75% of the adjudicator’s workload.
  • The adjudicator will no longer be responsible for complaints about the Insolvency Service.

The Adjudicator’s Office has published its 23rd annual report covering the past tax year. As has been the trend in recent years it reports an increase in the office’s workload with 13 000 enquiries received in 2015-16 and 970 cases resolved. This compares with 11 638 enquiries the previous year and 1 850 cases resolved.

The office acts as an impartial referee for complaints about handling issues such as mistakes delays staff attitude and quality of advice at HMRC the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) ...
