  • Make sure that employer clients are aware of the rates for the national minimum wage and national living wage that apply from 1 April. In the past these have changed in October.

 

  • The decision in Champneys shows the importance for employers of ensuring they obtain past employment information from new employees and act on it. Make sure clients have procedures in place to deal with this when taking on a new employee.

 

  • Although an increase in the class 4 rate has been ruled out for the life of this parliament it seems likely that a rise will be implemented in the future and self-employed clients should be aware of this.

 

  • The Finance Bill 2017 proposals will alleviate some unreasonable tax charges if there has been a partial encashment of a life assurance bond. However this...
