Corporation tax filing

Following the end of filing corporation tax accounts as pdf documents two friends who both have ‘small’ companies were obliged to employ external consultants to translate their financial statistics into iXBRL format to enable these and the related tax computations to be filed with their CT600s. In January 2017 both companies filed their 2015-16 accounts and were obliged to purchase commercial software for the CT600s because the HMRC free service had been withdrawn.

This year both companies were well ahead with their 2016-17 accounts and contacted their iXBRL people to prepare the files.

That was where the grief started. When they logged into their respective HMRC online accounts they found a new ‘beta’ filing regime (CATO) had been introduced. This required ‘small/micro companies’ that fit the required criteria to fill in their CT600 by completing a set of forms that had no...
