Put your client admin into motion.
- The deadline for registering trusts has passed. HMRC has published information on penalties for late filing but says it will take a pragmatic and risk-based approach. Those acting for trusts that were not registered by 5 March should do so as soon as possible.
- When a client receives a notice to file a tax return always double-check the year to which it relates. It is easy to assume that the notice would apply to the current year rather than past years especially if you believe the client’s tax affairs are up to date.
