It's a digital life

KEY POINTS

  • Making Tax Digital should have been called Making Business Digital.
  • Consumers’ lives are increasingly digital as they demand instant service.
  • Government is enquiring into the way people pay for goods.
  • Businesses that are designed to be digital will be best placed to meet the MTD requirements.
  • HMRC is trying to close the tax gap by going digital.

Digitalisation is everywhere and it is pointless to pretend it is not going to continue to change most aspects of our everyday lives. It can be frustrating but being digital is also useful for the UK as a whole. The economies that embrace digital are also those that have the highest rates of productivity.
