2,616 self-assessment tax returns on Christmas Day.

HMRC received 2,616 self-assessment tax returns on Christmas Day – a small increase on the 2,590 received on Christmas Day in 2017. The peak time was between 1pm and 2pm, when more than 230 taxpayers filed. A further 8,465 returns were submitted on Boxing Day.

The figures for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day were 33,157 and 17,762 respectively.
