The May edition of HMRC’s agent update is available. It has various articles and updates including the following.

Changes to HMRC’s webchat service

Following a review of its webchat services that began in January HMRC now offers webchat services for employers on their reporting obligations as they submit their PAYE submissions through the real time information (RTI) online service.

HMRC intends to bring back a service for contractors as they submit their monthly and annual returns.

Other webchat services that remain open include self assessment borders and trade obligations and extra support for taxpayers who need extra support or help accessing online services. To support these services HMRC will trial digital assistants also known as chat bots. These are designed to help users navigate online guidance.
