Developing a career can be fraught with difficulties. How do I get to be a senior manager/director/partner? Do I want these roles? Would I be a good fit? Am I good enough?

All these questions and many more pass through people’s minds as they progress in their career and this is where on an individual basis a mentor can be of immense value. They will have gone through the process and can help with identifying career goals and recognising areas that might need to be developed.

This year for the first time the Taxation Awards celebrated the importance of the mentoring role by inviting nominations for mentor of the year. The inaugural winner was Paul Scully of Grant Thornton and he reveals why he became a mentor how significant the mentoring role has become and his views on the state of the profession....
