In reply to comments on the new digital service for reporting and paying capital gains tax on residential property an HMRC spokesperson made the following comments:

‘We keep all our guidance under review and welcome feedback from stakeholders to improve our services. We want to help all customers get their tax right and encourage anyone who is unsure of the rules to talk to us.

‘We’re very much taking on board a lot of what’s said but just for some added detail here’s some additional background on specific points in the article (see page 16).

‘The introduction of capital gains tax property disposal accounts is consistent with HMRC’s strategy to design transactional services to be digital by default. As with all HMRC’s online services it conforms to General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and is accessible through the single government domain GOV.UK. This enables users...
