Claims for coronavirus job retention scheme exceed 285,000

HMRC reports that more than 285 000 businesses have already applied for the coronavirus job retention scheme since it went live on 20 April.

Further to be sure payment comes through to employers before the end of the month applications need to be made by 22 April.

The department has noticed that some employers have had difficulty accessing the system because they do not have an active PAYE enrolment. To make a claim directly employers need to:

  • have a government gateway ID and password – if a client does not already have an account they can apply here or by going to GOV.UK and searching for 'HMRC services: sign in or register'; and
  • be enrolled for PAYE online – if a client is not registered yet they can do so now or by going to GOV.UK and searching for 'PAYE online...
