Finance Bill

The government will publish draft clauses for the next Finance Bill on 20 July along with accompanying explanatory notes tax information and impact notes responses to consultations and other supporting documents.

National Insurance

The primary threshold for class 1 National Insurance contributions increased to £12 570 on 6 July 2022 bringing the threshold into line with the income tax personal allowance.

Birmingham hub

HMRC Birmingham regional centre and UK government hub was opened by Jim Harra HMRC’s first permanent secretary and chief executive on 30 June. The building is home to 4 600 civil servants including around 3 500 from HMRC. Joining them are civil servants from the Department for Work and Pensions and Valuation Office Agency.
