February deadline

Taxpayers have until 28 February to file their 2020-21 self-assessment tax return to avoid a late filing penalty.

Self assessment

Almost 100 000 self-assessment taxpayers have used online payment plans to spread more than £310m worth of tax into monthly instalments since April 2021 HMRC has revealed.

Veterans

New guidance on how and when employers can claim National Insurance relief on the earnings of qualifying veterans has been published.

Alternative finance 

HMRC has launched a technical consultation seeking views on draft regulations – Alternative Finance (Income Tax Capital Gains Tax and Corporation Tax) Order 2022 – which will widen the scope of the tax legislation applying to alternative finance arrangements. Responses should be emailed to liang.tang@hmrc.gov.uk by 11 March 2022.
