In 2023-24 3 780 companies raised a total of £1 575m under the enterprise investment scheme (EIS) down 20% on the previous year.
Latest figures from HMRC show that some £309m was raised by 1 010 new EIS companies in 2023-24. In that year companies from the information and communication sector accounted for £551m of investment – 35% of all EIS investment – and companies registered in London and the south east accounted for the largest proportion of investment raising £997m (63%).
The number of investors claiming income tax relief under EIS fell from 40 470 in 2022-23 to 35 150 in 2023-24.
In 2024-25 HMRC received 3 090 EIS advance assurance requests (AARs) – a decrease of 60 from 2023-24 – of these HMRC has so far approved 76%. It approved 73% of the 3 150 applications received in 2023-24....
