New remote gambling duty planned for 2027

A consultation is under way on the introduction of a single duty for remote gambling in the UK. The government is proposing to replace the current duties that have applied to remote gambling since 2014 – general betting duty pool betting duty and remote gaming duty – with a remote betting and gaming duty. This would have in its scope betting and gaming activities offered remotely such as online casino and bingo and remote betting including general and pool betting.

The government says the aim of the consultation is to ensure the taxation of remote gambling is appropriate to the industry create a tax which reflects the commonalities of remote gambling and simplify the system and reduce administrative burdens.
