HMRC has released its statistics on the take-up of the enterprise investment scheme (EIS) and seed enterprise investment scheme (SEIS) for 2017-18.
The highlights are:
- Since the EIS was launched in 1993-94 29 770 companies have received investment and more than £20bn of funds have been raised.
- Since the SEIS was launched in 2012-13 12 900 companies have received investment and more than £1bn of funds has been raised.
- In 2017-18 some 3 920 companies raised £1 929m under the EIS scheme. This is an increase from 2016-17 when 3 655 companies raised £1 901m. Of those companies 1 710 were using the EIS scheme for the first time accounting for £759m.
- A further 2 320 companies raised £189m under the SEIS scheme. This is down from the 2 425 companies that raised £187m in 2016-17. However more than 1 700 companies were raising funds under the SEIS...
