Do the MPs who pay their nearest and dearest for research/secretarial services, etc operate PAYE on what they pay them? I hope they do. This vindictive thought is a result more of latent bitterness at having to operate PAYE on my children's nanny's earnings (that may have been seven or eight years ago, but the scars linger), than genuine concern about MPs tax affairs. But if I had to do it, why shouldn't they? And, while I'm on the subject, I still believe that the tax and National Insurance that I had to pay on behalf of the nanny should have been tax deductible on my earnings.
