I went to the AAT President's lunch last week, at Haberdasher's Hall, near Farringdon station - a very good do, with the admirable tradition of not having any speeches. On the way back, I saw a branch of Books etc that was closing down, with a '75% off everything' sale. I'm a glutton for books, especially cut-price books, but these had been shelved with no attempt to divide them into categories, so it was hard to find anything interesting. Until I saw a familiar yellow spine: Tolley's Yellow Tax Handbook, 2005-06, Part 1b. Not much use on its own, I thought. Then as I wandered round the shop I came across Part 3 three bookcases along. Then Part 1b round the corner and on the bottom shelf. Eventually I'd found all of it, and the orange book as well. By then my fingers were itching. I couldn't just leave them there as lonely, separate volumes. So I collected them all up and put them on one shelf as a set. How sad is that?
