All new work on the companies using these tax incentives will be dealt with at four specialist units which became operational from 25 September. These are located in Cardiff, Maidstone, Middlesbrough and Dundee.
The Small Company Enterprise Centre will deal with:

enquiries from companies about whether they meet the conditions of the enterprise investment scheme, venture capital trust scheme and enterprise management incentives scheme;
requests from companies for informal advance clearance that they will meet the requirements of the enterprise investment or venture capital trust scheme;
checking whether enterprise management incentives scheme options meet the qualifying requirements, monitoring to ensure that the options continue to qualify, and controlling the issue and review of enterprise management incentives scheme returns;
the corporation tax liability of companies using the enterprise investment, venture capital trust, corporate venturing and enterprise management incentives schemes and the monitoring of these companies during the qualifying period applicable to the relevant scheme.

The Small Company Enterprise Centre will not deal with:

? companies which have raised money under the enterprise investment or venture capital trust schemes in the past (unless the company raises new funds under those schemes or the corporate venturing scheme);
? investors in any of the schemes or individuals holding options under enterprise management incentives scheme;
? statutory advance clearances and compliance statements under the corporate venturing scheme. (These will be dealt with by the Corporate Venturing Unit.);
? the approval and corporation tax affairs of venture capital trusts themselves — these matters will continue to be dealt with by the Financial Intermediaries and Claims Office.
