The SA Online service (the electronic tax return provided by the Revenue) is available again, the Revenue announced on 27 June. The service was temporarily withdrawn on 27 May following reports from some taxpayers that they had seen information relating to another person.

The Revenue has identified the precise causes of the incident, which were a combination of internal and external factors. Independent Internet security experts have endorsed the changes the Revenue has made to ensure it does not happen again.

The Revenue has also undertaken a comprehensive examination of the logs which record all the activity on its Internet filing service to be sure that any taxpayers who may have been affected were identified. As a result, the Revenue says that 27,967 of the SA Online users since 6 April were not affected. However, 47 users may have had their information seen by another person. In addition, there are 665 users where the possibility of their information being seen by someone else cannot be completely eliminated.
