Re: Donations to political parties.

I note your recent change in strategy to focus  on companies controlled by former donors to the Labour Party.

I understand that you have requested that the Metropolitan Police and the Electoral Commission advise you of situations where employees of former donors start making donations to the Party and there is a suspicion that the gifts are actually disguised gifts from the former donors themselves.

Being a mere Treasury official I do not know the first thing about the law let alone tax law. However I have had a chat with one of those clever HMRC people at the back of our building who says there is a  tax angle to this story.

Apparently if the employer gives the money to an employee with the request...
