Enterprise zones

The locations of four more enterprise zones in Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds and Sheffield have been announced by the government. The zones will benefit from discounts on business rates, new superfast broadband, lower levels of planning control and the potential to use enhanced capital allowances. The locations of a further ten enterprise zones will be made known shortly.

Plumbers’ plan

HMRC remind plumbers, gas fitters and heating engineers that they have only one month left to tell the department about tax that they owe and to make arrangements to pay any interest and penalties due. Details of how to disclose unpaid tax and make payment arrangements can be found online or by calling 0845 600 4507.

Childcare

Updated guidance for employers and parents on the new rules for employer-supported childcare effective from 6 April 2011 is available.

Tax treaties

HMRC have published draft legislation to combat tax avoidance using double taxation treaties. Comments should be submitted by 22 September 2011.
