Ebooks

In a speech delivered in May 2015 to the German newspaper association, Jean-Claude Juncker, president of the European Commission said that, in 2016, the commission will consider introducing a reduced VAT rate for online books and newspapers. This follows the March 2015 Court of Justice of the EU case where Luxembourg and France lost appeals concerning their introduction of a reduced VAT rate on ebooks.

The ATED guidance on completing a return has been updated to reflect legislative changes which came into effect on 1 April 2015.

R40 claims

The form has been amended to show the new address to send R40 claims for the repayment of tax deducted from savings and investments. 

Tax credit fraud

Official statistics released by HMRC estimate that the cost of tax credits error and fraud has dropped from £2.27bn in 2010/11 to £1.26bn in 2013/14. 

Kosovo

The double tax convention between the UK and the Republic of Kosovo for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income and on capital was signed on 4 June 2015.
