Report on joint HMRC/agent workshop, hosted by Taxation, which examined a fictional tax intervention.


  • An investigation case study with views from the profession and HMRC.
  • Have enquiry time limits been complied with?
  • Is the request for information reasonable?
  • The actions and cooperation during the enquiry process will be taken into account in determining penalties.
  • Whether reasonable care was taken by the taxpayer in preparing the return will be relevant to any penalties.


On 6 November 2015 a joint HMRC/agent workshop organised by the former Tolworth Working Together (WT) group was hosted by Taxation. In welcoming 60 attendees from most of the professional bodies and HMRC local practitioner Susan Gompels reminded us of the value of such workshops.
