Put your client admin into motion.

  • Make sure that employer clients who were affected by December’s bad weather know they can appeal against a penalty for late payment or return if flooding caused the delay. It may also be helpful to remind them of the special HMRC helpline.

 

  • If you have non-EU based business clients remind them of the importance of submitting the correct documents to HMRC on time to recover UK VAT; failure to do so may as happened in Comoretel (TC4750) result in substantial loss. 

 

  • Even though your client base may seem unlikely to be affected by the OECD’s base erosion and profit shifting project – or indeed by the diverted profits tax – it would be worth keeping an eye on developments in case clients ask about them.
