The Finance Bill received royal assent on 27 April 2017.

 

Tyrie steps down

Andrew Tyrie has announced that after 20 years as an MP he is not standing for re-election. He was chair of the House of Commons’ Treasury Committee.

 

e-books VAT

MEPs have backed a proposal to lower the VAT on e-books aligning them with printed books. Currently e-books have to be taxed at an EU minimum standard rate of 15% whereas the reduced rate of at least 5% – in some cases 0% – applies to printed publications.

 

Money laundering

HMRC has updated its information to include information about using the online service for businesses registered with it under the Money Laundering Regulations that need to report changes.
