HMRC is keen that taxpayers use a business tax account or personal tax account to access and use its services. Usually it is clear which account a taxpayer should opt for but some individuals are also business owners so may have both or may not know which one to use. Given the uncertainty and confusion this can cause HMRC appointed the employment welfare and skills team in Ipsos MORI’s Social Research Institute to carry out research to gain insight into the preferences of this group.
