Christmas wishlist of novel tax reliefs

There’s no better time of year than Christmas and no better place to celebrate it than at ‘Taxation Towers’. The mince pies are warming as we drape our decorations around the room. And there’s a roaring fire in the hearth – who would have thought those old copies of the tax legislation would burn so well and what a great job the government does in supplying us with such a plentiful amount each year. No need for the editorial team to tramp about through the rude winds and bitter weather to ‘gather winter fu-u-el’ as the carol says; we have it delivered straight to our door. And like all self-respecting users of open fires we also forbear the use of firelighters – although perhaps it’s the hot air from those Finance Bill committee reports that we direct towards the blaze occasionally to keep it going.
